(1817 Alvensleben – 1886 Magdeburg) Portrait of a Girl. Oval composition, full-length portrait depicting a girl from a wealthy family, dressed in a white summer dress and sitting on the edge of a park with a doll and a red rose on her lap or in her right hand; beside her, a doll carriage with a bouquet of roses inside. An exquisite and finely crafted work created by Wodick, known for several children’s portraits. Wodick studied at the Academy in Düsseldorf from 1836 to 1841, including under Friedrich Wilhelm Schadow and the renowned portraitist and genre painter Karl Ferdinand Sohn. He developed a particular talent for portrait painting. From 1841 to 1846, Wodick spent an extended period in Paris and Rome, where his work as a portraitist earned him an increasing number of commissions; Bavarian King Ludwig I and Prince Henry of Prussia were among his clients and admirers, as were wealthy nobles. In 1846, Wodick returned to Magdeburg, where he established himself as a sought-after portraitist for numerous figures from politics, economics, science, and culture. In 1862, even Prussian King Wilhelm I personally sat for him. Oil on canvas; signed and dated 1869. 110 cm x 86 cm. Original frame.
