"Gondolas: a study of the Venetian gondola with gondoliers"

(1821, Beaune – 1911, Paris) "Gondolas." The original title is Meisterhaft, executed with a few brushstrokes—a preliminary study of a fully occupied Venetian gondola with gondoliers. Ziem was a member of the Barbizon School, debuting at the Paris Salon in 1849, and since then became a regular participant in exhibitions. In 1860, Ziem settled in the artistic quarter of Montmartre.
