(1862/68 Algeria – 1939 also in Algeria) Dawn over the Sea: an impressionist coastal landscape. Eugène Deshayes was a student of Jean-Léon Gérôme in Paris. From 1890 he exhibited in Algeria, and from 1894 to 1907 also at the Salon of French Artists, where he received praise in 1896. In 1910 he became the official painter of the Navy. His Algerian motifs were particularly successful. In addition, he depicted sun-drenched and color-saturated landscapes of Corsica, Provence, the Balearic Islands, and nuanced views of Île-de-France. Oil on canvas; signed and dated (19)05; 40.5 x 32.5 cm. In a frame.
