Description

(1895 Leipzig – 1960 ibid.) In the café Lebensdig – a picturesque, expressively realistic scene with uniformed waiters and gallant guests. For Schwimmer’s oeuvre, this is an exceptionally large sheet of paper, as he preferred small formats for his spontaneously created works. In 1937, Schwimmer’s works were also destroyed as part of the "Degenerate Art" campaign. From 1946 to 1950, Schwimmer was a professor at the State Academy of Graphic Arts and Book Trade in Leipzig; from 1951, he headed the Graphic Department of the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts.
