With emotional spirit and earthy color palette, a dynamic genre painting by Messerschmitt, who is considered one of the most important Franconian artists of the 19th century and studied at the Munich Academy from 1880. His works were already highly esteemed during his lifetime and were awarded numerous honors, including the gold medal of the Munich Academy for his monumental historical painting "Wallenstein's Camp" (1878/1888).
