With an emotional spirit and an earthy color palette, a dynamic genre painting by Messerschmidt, who is considered one of the most important Franconian artists of the 19th century and studied at the Munich Academy from 1880 onward. His works were already highly regarded during his lifetime and were recognized with numerous awards, including the gold medal of the Munich Academy for his monumental historical painting "Wallenstein's Camp" (1878/1888).
