Copper engraving by Braun and Hogenberg from "Civitates Orbis Terrarum (...)", 1572-1618. Four views on one sheet, including a view of Kozhikode (Calicut), together with views of Kannur (Cannanore), the Iranian island of Hormuz (Ormuz), and the Portuguese fortress Fort São Jorge da Mina (Elmina Castle or St. George's Castle) on the Gold Coast, present-day Ghana (also referred to as "Guinea in Africa"). Plate size 34 cm x 47.5 cm. Framed. Provenance: an old North German hotel-owning family.
