Description

On a high place, with plastic branches and floral vines, sits a semi-nude Venus on a stone pedestal, accompanied by a standing winged Cupid with a quiver, his wings gilded. Opposite them is a cooing pair of doves, symbolizing love. Polychrome painting. Possibly the work of Peter Reinicke around 1747. There is minor restoration; slight damage; crossed swords mark. Height 18.5 cm. See Pietsch, Catalogue of Meissen Porcelain Sculpture by Kirchner and Kändler, number 111. Porcelain group of figures of Venus and Cupid. Slightly restored. There is a small chip. Crossed swords mark. Meissen. Mid-18th century.
