Художник Герман Кауфманн: картина-шкаф от известного жанрового и пейзажного художника Гамбурга (1844-1915)

(1844 Hamburg - 1915 Prien am Chiemsee) Upper Bavarian peasant girl looking in the wall mirror. Finely painted, characteristic cabinet picture by Hugo Kauffmann, son of the renowned Hamburg genre and landscape painter Hermann Kauffmann (1808 - 1889). From 1861 to 1863, he studied at the Städel's Art Institute in Frankfurt am Main and settled in Munich and Prien from 1871. In his oeuvre, Hugo Kauffmann demonstrates his talent as an outstanding painter of humorous, subtly observed scenes from Bavarian folk life, full of narrative power. He mostly composed these scenes in taverns and peasant rooms, with a keen sense for details and lighting. Additionally, he created a series of rural portraits, with a preference for portraits of peasant girls in traditional costume. Oil on mahogany panel. Signed. On the reverse, stamp of the art collection Wolf Anton von Manner, seal with coat of arms, paper label with number 103 and artist's name "Hugo Kauffmann". 24.5 cm x 18.5 cm. Frame. Provenance: From the collection of Wolf Anton Reichsritter von Manner zu Mätzelsdorf (1850-1922), Vienna.
