(1826 Herrnhut - 1882 Wahren bei Brixen) Upper Bavarian wedding party fleeing in a horse-drawn wagon in a scene of a rapid journey before an approaching thunderstorm in an Alpine village, in which a mother with children and two other figures escape from the storm and the wagon, alongside a small accompanying dog. Rare, early work by Liers, who masterfully combines an atmospherically tuned landscape with a genre theme and the depiction of swift movement. It belongs to the artist's first known paintings, who was based in Munich since 1849. In his first period, Liers focused on the mountain world of the Alps and the beauty of tranquil Upper Bavarian lakes, which he chose as the motif for his paintings. In the summer, he undertook study trips to Tyrol and the Salzburg region, to Brandenburg, to the Raumau, to Lake Starnberg and Lake Chiemsee on the Fraueninsel. From 1861 to 1864, Liers stayed in Paris for a longer period, which led him to plein air painting. In addition to the Munich tradition, his art increasingly embraced new influences from the Barbizon school and the French "paysage intime". Oil on canvas, relined; signed and dated 1854 with location Munich. 52 cm x 65 cm. Framed.
