(1814 Werl - 1883 Düsseldorf) Hallsätter Lake with Boats in the Evening Light is a characteristic, coloristically nuanced, late Romantic depiction with a high atmospheric density and subtle sensitivity for the light and the elevation of the landscape. The artist, Johann Wilhelm Schirmer, trained at the Düsseldorf Academy from 1833 to 1840, primarily painted Alpine lakes, which he successfully exhibited in many art exhibitions from 1836 onwards. The artwork is an oil on canvas, measuring 60 cm x 93 cm, and is housed in its original frame. On the reverse, there are remnants of an original label with a title. The painting is signed and dated 1845.
