(1862/68 Algiers - 1939 ibid) Dawn over the Sea: an impressionistic coastal landscape. Eugène Deshayes was a student of Jean-Léon Gérôme in Paris. Since 1890, he exhibited in Algiers and from 1894 to 1907, also at the Salon des Artistes Français, where he received commendation in 1896. In 1910, he became an official painter of the Marine. Particularly successful were his Algerian motifs. Furthermore, he depicted sun-drenched and color-intensive landscapes of Corsica, Provence, the Balearic Islands, and nuanced views of Île-de-France. Oil on canvas; signed and dated (19)05; 40.5 x 32.5 cm. Framed.
