(1878 Leipzig - 1963 Weimar) Gänseliesl, an expressionistic work by Kother, which is influenced in motif and style by Otto Mueller, with whom he was friends since his student days and whose brother-in-law he became in 1909. Kother belongs to the significant rediscovered artists of the so-called "lost generation". He was influenced by the painters Max Pechstein and Erich Heckel, who also belonged to the artist group "Brücke". In 1914, Kother moved to Berlin, where Herwarth Walden showed his work in his "Sturm" gallery in 1916 together with Max Pechstein and Lyonel Feininger. From 1918 onwards, the successes piled up: in 1919, he participated in the "November Group" at the Great Berlin Art Exhibition, in 1921 the gallery Moeller dedicated a solo exhibition to him; in 1922, Kother received the honorary prize of the Prussian Academy of Arts from Max Liebermann. Pastel/paper. 52 cm x 67 cm (matting cutout). Framed. The work is included in the preparatory work catalog. Pastel on paper.
