"Blue Mountains: a late summer landscape of Algoy"

Otto Moderzon

"Синие горы: позднелетний пейзаж Альгоя"

(1865 Soest - 1943 Rotenburg/Wümme) Blue Mountains (On the Nusche) Late summer-like Allgäu landscape with a view from the viewpoint between Bad Hindelang and Gailenberg. In the foreground, a small path with trees already turning autumnal-golden-brown, in the middle and background the blue mountains of the Allgäu Alps with partially snow-covered peaks, illuminated by light and distance. In 1925, Modersohn traveled to the Allgäu for the first time. Modersohn, co-founder of the artists' colony and resident in Fischerhude since 1908, acquired an old farmhouse on the Gailenberg near Hindelang in the Allgäu in 1930, where he spent the summer months until 1937. The now 65-year-old painter works intensively in nature amidst a completely new landscape environment, a highly suspenseful, inspiring contrast between the Allgäu mountain world and the North German Fischerhude. Oil on canvas; signed and dated (19)31. Titled on the canvas stretcher by Christian Modersohn (son of the artist). 50 cm x 60 cm. Frame. We thank Mr. Rainer Noeres, Otto-Modersohn-Museum in Fischerhude, for confirming the authenticity.
