(1889 Geneva - 1955 ibid) "Apres le bain". Original title. Painted in bright colors, this is a portrait of a young woman, seen from behind, sitting on a garden chair on the quay. This is a characteristic work of the Swiss painter Barraud, who primarily created landscapes around Lake Geneva, as well as nude and female portraits. In 1914, he founded the artist group "Le Falot" together with his brother Francois Barraud, Emile Bressler, Gustave Buchet, and Hans Berger, which served as a counterbalance to the dominant influence of Ferdinand Hodler. In this sense, Barraud admired the works of Henri Matisse, Pierre Bonnard, and Paul Cézanne and drew inspiration from their expressive and colorful style. Oil on canvas; signed and dated (1944). Various (gallery) labels on the reverse, including title and provenance information. 55 cm x 46 cm. Framed. Provenance: Galerie Beaux-Arts Georges J. Kaspar, Zurich, exhibition 11-30 Nov 1944, no. 20; Auction Galerie Kornfeld, Bern, 13 Jun 2013, Lot 211. Swiss private collection. Auction Dobiaschofsky, Bern, 04 Nov 2022, Lot 137.
