(1806 Berlin – 1862 same place) Winter landscape with a watermill and old semi-abandoned houses. A romantic, atmospheric landscape created by Schmidt, who worked in the studio of Ludwig Dölls and Carl Blechen, where he received crucial inspiration for landscapes distinguished by a sensitive depiction of the observed and of nature. From 1832, Schmidt frequently exhibited at the Berlin Academy exhibitions, as well as at art exhibitions in Hanover and Dresden, where his landscapes and marine paintings were presented. Oil on wooden panel. Signed. 39 cm x 48 cm. Probably the original frame.
