Rendered with delicate brushstrokes, this sheet by Dupré, who belonged to the Barbizon School, is a leading representative of the so-called "intimate landscape" and a founder of modern French landscape painting. Dupré debuted at the Paris Salon in 1831. He primarily depicted French landscapes, but from 1835 to 1839 he was also influenced by English motifs, particularly those used by John Constable.
