The pair "Shepherd" and "Shepherdess"

Meissen (Meissen)

The pair
Description

On an irregular, nature-inspired pedestal adorned with plastic flowers and leaves, stands a shepherd playing a flute. As a contrast, nearby is a shepherdess holding a bouquet of flowers in her right hand, her casually draped-up apron filled with flowers. A dog or a lying sheep can be seen on the ground. This is a polychrome painting highlighted with gold outlines. It may be a work by Johann Joachim Kändler, though this is unclear due to restoration or damage. The height is 17 cm. See Adams, "Meissen Portrait Figures," illustration on page 47. This is a pair of porcelain figures depicting a shepherd and a shepherdess. They have been slightly restored or damaged. They bear the crossed swords mark of Meissen. Created around 1750.
