The pair "Shepherd" and "Shepherdess"

Meissen (Meissen)

The pair
Description

On an irregular, nature-inspired pedestal adorned with plastic flowers and leaves stands a shepherd playing the flute. In contrast, next to him is a shepherdess holding a bouquet of flowers in her right hand, her hastily thrown-up apron filled with flowers. On the ground, a dog or a reclining sheep can be seen. This is a polychrome piece highlighted with golden outlines. It is possibly the work of Johann Joachim Kändler, although this is unclear due to restoration or damage. The height is 17 cm. See Adams, "Meissen Portrait Figures," illustration on page 47. This is a pair of porcelain figures depicting a shepherd and a shepherdess. They have been slightly restored or damaged. They bear the crossed swords mark of Meissen. Created around 1750.
