Rare porcelain figure "Soldier on Horseback" from the Meissen manufactory.

Meissen (Meissen)

Rare porcelain figure
Description

An oval base adorned with plastic flowers and lush vegetation, supported by a tree trunk. A young gentleman seated on a horse, dressed in a pink ceremonial uniform with elegant yellow accents and gold ornaments, holds the reins in his left hand and salutes with his raised right hand. Barrel-shaped vessels with rounded forms hang at the sides. Polychrome painting with gold edges. Possibly attributed to Johann Joachim Kändler, circa 1755. Condition uncertain, crossed-swords mark. Height: 19 cm. Likely based on copperplate engravings by Jacques Gabriel Huquier. Comparable Meissen figurine - "Paukenschläger zu Pferde" (model no. 1963). Here, the drums on the horse are depicted as small vessels. See Adams, Kändler Period, no. 205; Berling, Festschrift, fig. 45 (similar). A rare porcelain figurine of a soldier on horseback. Minor restoration. Crossed-swords mark. Meissen. Mid-18th century.
