The groups of figures symbolize the reign and policies of Catherine the Great
Description

"Victoria I" from the "Great Russian Order" for Empress Catherine II. The human side of the curved base, surrounded by a relief ornament, with a fully sculpted group embodying the allegory of victory. Rising among numerous military trophies entwined with the trunk of a tree, adorned with elaborate armor with a large helmet crowned with a plume, are banners, quivers, fasces, a sword, a morning star, and a cannon barrel with artillery tools as attributes of war.

At the bottom lie field drums and a book. On the left sits Clio, the muse of history, in a pink floral dress with a book in her hands, holding a quill and a trumpet, and to be precise, on the right sits a putto adorning the cannon with a laurel wreath. Polychrome painting is combined with rich gilded decoration. Probably made by Johann Joachim Kändler in 1773. Possibly restored, sword mark indicated. Height 34 cm. 26 cm x 15 cm. Representation of the model from the so-called "Great Russian Order" of Empress Catherine II, which she commissioned for the Imperial Palace in Oranienbaum (now Lomonosov) near St. Petersburg. A copy, "Victoria II," was made with the seated goddess of war Minerva and accompanying owl attributes. The symbolic meaning of both groups is already clearly reflected in the names given by Kändler in his reports from April 1773, where he calls them "Victoria I and II" or "Victory of the Russian Empress."

The figure groups symbolize the reign and policies of Catherine the Great. The late 18th-century design is in the Dresden State Art Collections (inv. no. P.E. 402). See Petsch, Meissen Catalogue for the Tsars, No. 175F, p. 115 and following. Rare early allegorical group of porcelain figures "Victoria I," made by J. J. Kändler in 1772, originally part of the "Great Russian Order" for Tsarina Catherine II of Russia, known as "the Great." Slightly restored. Crossed swords mark. Meissen. Circa 1773.
