On a three-tiered pedestal, an image of the dancer Ruth St. Denis striding forward in an open belly, clad in an oriental costume, performing her dance "Radha" ("Dance of the Five Senses," premiered in 1906). Behind her on the pedestal are two baskets of roses. Polychrome underglaze painting. Model No. 3992, designed around 1911/1912.
Condition: minor glaze chips. Markings: "Rose," manufacturer's mark with the inscription "Made in Austria"; small impressed mark with an illegible monogram.
Height 53.5 cm. The famous American dancer Ruth St. Denis (1879-1968) performed her show "Radha" during her European tour of 1906-1909 to great acclaim, including in Paris, Berlin, and Vienna. See Dechant / Goldscheider, p. 379 with illustration; the large figurine "Ruth" by Goldscheider, depicting the renowned female dancer Ruth St. Denis, was created around 1911/1912. Polychrome painted and glazed ceramic.
