Erich Hösel is a famous German animal sculptor. He began his studies in 1886 at the Dresden Academy of Arts.
From 1903 until his retirement in 1929, Erich Hösel worked at the Meisse manufactory, and in 1912 he headed the design department. Only in the period from 1904 to 1918 did he create about 100 sculptural models.
His works have always been distinguished by special realism and attention to detail. Each figurine is made with special care and knowledge of the habits, life, and character of the animal.
The animal figures are mainly made of white porcelain with traditional naturalistic painting.
He gained the necessary observations during familiarization trips to African and Middle Eastern countries, as well as through regular visits to zoos throughout Europe.
