Meissen decorative bowl with stand
Description

A basin on a rectangular base, supported by powerful curved sheet legs, decorated with relief in the Rocaille style. The oval bowl stands on four volute legs adorned with acanthus leaf reliefs. The swollen body, divided by vertical ribs, rests on a relief base in the shape of a shell with a wide, elegantly curved rim, decorated with floral detailing and rosettes. On the sides are handles in the form of putti crowned with flower wreaths, with garlands above the relief, volute-shaped stem. Around the piece runs a relief Rocaille-style decor, painted in delicate pink and sea green colors. On the walls are large reserves framed with profiles, featuring arabesques of golden curling plants on a light gray background; on both sides are cut-out cartouches topped with shells and surrounded by lush, plastically applied floral garlands, with an elegant Watteau-style scene depicting aristocratic society engaged in making music. In the center is a large golden rosette and a corresponding wide golden border. Base. Polychrome painting with rich gilded decoration. Designed by Ernst August Leuteritz, circa 1882–1885.
