Reverse

In the central part, against a background of mountains, an image of a torch in the form of hands holding a bowl with a flame. On both sides of the torch, beneath the mountains, ruins are symbolically depicted — the aftermath of the earthquake. Below the torch is the date '7.12.1988'. At the top, the inscription 'ARMENIA', divided by the flame into two parts 'ARM' and 'ENIA'. Around the circumference are the inscriptions 'ZONE OF EARTHQUAKE', 'MERCY', 'CREATION', separated by dots.

Obverse

In the upper part of the coin is the State Emblem of the USSR, encircled by a ribbon (15 turns), below it the letters 'USSR', slightly lower the denomination of the coin, the numeral '3', and below that the word 'RUBLES'. At the edge of the lower part — the year of minting '1989'.
