    In the central part of the reverse is a relief portrait of T. G. Shevchenko. To the left of it, the dates '1814' and '1861' are arranged in two lines, with the inscription 'T. G. SHEVCHENKO' in a semicircle above. Below is the poet's signature in facsimile.

    In the upper part of the coin is the State Emblem of the USSR, encircled by a ribbon (15 turns). Below it are the letters 'USSR', slightly lower is the denomination numeral '1', and below that the word 'RUBLE'. Near the lower edge is the minting year '1989'.
