Reverse
The central part features the logo of the professional hockey club – the Montreal Canadiens. It consists of the Latin letter 'C' with the Latin letter 'H' inscribed within it. The central relief design on the reverse is executed in color. Along the edge of the coin are inscriptions in English: at the top the country name 'CANADA', at the bottom the club's founding year '1909' and the mintage year '2009', separated by the logo.
Obverse
In the center is the right-facing profile of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain. In the truncation of the portrait are the Latin letters 'SB' – the artist's mark of Susanna Blunt. Along the rim are inscriptions: to the right and left of the portrait, the Latin inscription 'ELIZABETH II D∙ G∙ REGINA' (Elizabeth II by the Grace of God Queen) is split into two parts; at the top in English '50 CENTS'; at the bottom the mintmark of the Ottawa Mint – a stylized maple leaf within a circle.
