Reverse

In the central part, a large numeral 1 on the left. On the right, at the top, a two-line inscription in English 'EURO / CENT', meaning 'one euro cent'. Below the inscription, a symbolic depiction of the globe with the outlines of Europe against a background of six slanted parallel lines, with 12 stars at their ends. Near the rim on the right is the engraver Luc Luycx's initials 'LL'.

Obverse

Along the edge of the coin, 12 stars of the European Union are evenly distributed. In the central part, the lesser coat of arms of the Republic of Latvia is depicted: a heraldic shield divided into three parts: at the top — a rising sun, in the lower left — a lion with its tongue out, in the lower right — a griffin. Above the shield, three five-pointed stars are arranged in a semicircle. Below the coat of arms is the name of the issuing state 'LATVIJA' in Latvian, with the year of issue '2014' vertically on the left.
