(1808 Magdeburg - 1886 Berlin) Visit of two children at the horse stable. Executed in a highly lively, finely detailed manner, this nature-inspired animal depiction showcases a delicate lacy style. The portrait and animal painter was a student of Franz Krüger and regularly attended the Berlin Academy exhibitions, including one in 1844 featuring an equestrian portrait of Prince Albrecht. In 1860, Randel displayed at the renowned art dealership of Louis Sachs in Berlin an identical or comparable painting titled "Pony," which, in addition to this, also depicted a young girl, a seated boy, a dog, and several young dogs in front of a house door (quote from "Die Dioskuren," issue 18, April 29, 1860, p. 150). Oil on canvas; signed and dated 1860. 52.5 cm x 63 cm. Framed.
