"Европейское полосатое изображение (Золото-синий)": рефная композиция в стиле Веймарской эпохи

Born in Weimar in 1954, this artwork titled "European Stripe Image (Gold-Blue)" is a highly pastose and relief-like composition executed with alternating blue and yellow stripes, representing the colors of the European Union. The artist, who studied under Werner Schriefers at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences from 1976 and under Gerhard Hoehme at the Düsseldorf Academy from 1978, has been engaged with the theme of German reunification and the subsequent formation of the European Union early on in his oeuvre. He is considered one of the most important contemporary German artists and has created a comprehensive body of work inspired by his great role model, Vincent van Gogh, showcasing outstanding visionary power. The artwork is oil on cardboard, mounted on a wooden panel. It is signed and labeled "Europe (Gold-Blue)" in the middle. On the reverse, it is dated 1984-88 and labeled with title and artwork information. The dimensions of the depiction are approximately 62 cm x 78 cm. It is framed.
