Matveyev, Mogilevsky, Notkin. Russian Museum! LARGE FORMAT!

This edition is dedicated to the embodiment of the theme of sports in Soviet visual arts.

The album of illustrations is preceded by scientific articles that present a wide panorama of the reflection of this theme in works of decorative and applied arts, sculpture, and graphics. A separate article is devoted to collecting art works - porcelain items related to physical culture motifs.

It is supplemented by a detailed catalog of Soviet ceramics and biographies of artists whose works are presented in the edition.

The exhibition "Sports in Soviet Porcelain, Graphics, Sculpture" featured about 350 works of domestic ceramics (porcelain, faience, majolica) from the 1920s to the early 1990s from the collections of the Russian Museum, the State Hermitage, and private collections.

The exhibition took place from April 25, 2018, to July 23, 2018, at the Russian Museum. This book (catalog) was released for this exhibition.

The first three sections of the exhibition were dedicated to the country's main porcelain productions: the Leningrad Porcelain Factory named after M. V. Lomonosov, the Dmitrov Porcelain Factory, and the Dulevo Porcelain Factory named after the newspaper "Pravda". The fourth section included works from all other, smaller but no less interesting productions (the Pervomaysky Porcelain Factory, the "Proletary" factory, the Konakovo faience factory named after M. I. Kalinin, artels "Keramik" and "Progress," and others).

The exhibition allowed one to trace how the theme of sport and a healthy lifestyle is transformed under the influence of the tasks set by the time for ceramic art, how a certain sporting event is reflected (Spartakiads, Olympic Games, Goodwill Games), what new artistic motifs and techniques are used by artists in a given period of the country's history. For the first time, the theme of sports in porcelain is so fully illuminated - the exhibition presented the work of more than 90 authors.

The ceramics on the sports theme were complemented by works of Soviet graphics and sculpture from the collection of the Russian Museum.
