
Silver, gilded with inlay of wood, lacquered with so-called Vernis Martin. Rectangular shape with slight recessed walls. Finely wave-shaped guilloche covering all surfaces. The edges are relief sculpted with floral decoration. On the lid, a wood inlay depicting a red-brown and gold lacquered mountain landscape by a river. The banks are adorned with Japanese cherry trees and pines. Minimum weight; marked, hallmarks, guarantee mark from 1838, and indistinct master's mark "DL" (?). Weight approximately 65g. Height 1.3cm. 6.6cm x 4cm. Compare with Rosenberg, Vol. IV, No. 5893, 6579, 6593. A rare French Louis XV style gilt-silver mounted Japanese lacquer snuff box. Minor dents. Assay and guarantee mark from 1838. Indistinct master's mark. France. Paris. 1838.
