The porcelain factory Hertwig & Co. was founded in Germany, Thuringia, in 1864 by Christoph Hertwig and produced children's dolls, decorative elements, gifts, as well as ceramic products and porcelain figurines. Approximately 500 people were involved in the production. In 1958, the factory was nationalized and renamed Katzhutte.

The range of products was sharply reduced. A very interesting fact is that at the time of nationalization, a lot of historical samples of the factory were archived. Dolls, vases, and statuettes were packed in boxes and stored in one of the warehouses.

This archive was completely looted by state companies in the early 1980s, and a large part of the items was sold at auctions in Berlin and London. Thanks to this fact, porcelain items produced at the factory before 1958 are highly valued among experts and collectors. After the reunification of Germany in 1990, the factory was closed.
