[“One of the creators of new artistic thinking”] Kuzkin Alexander Gennadievich (1950–1983) “Hamlet.” Poster for the exhibition. 1977-1978. Paper, silkscreen, 55×30.5 cm. On the reverse side, a sticker with printed text: “The poster was printed in an edition of 50 copies in memory of the exhibition of works by Alexander Kuzkin 1950-1983 / The exhibition was held from January 29 to February 17, 1986 at the Central House of Writers named after A.A. Fadeev (Moscow, Herzen St., 53).” Graphic artist, illustrator, book designer, industrial graphic artist, poster artist, painter. From 1968 to 1973, he studied at the Graphic Arts Faculty of the Moscow Printing Institute under M.T. Khazanov, Yu.K. Burdzhelyan, P.G. Zakharov, A.D. Goncharov, V.N. Lyakhov. In 1976, he joined the Association of Young Artists and Art Historians at the Union of Artists of the USSR. From that year, he became a regular participant in all-Union and international exhibitions. In 1977, he went on a creative trip to the Magadan region, and in 1978 to the Far East. Since 1979, he was a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR. In 1981, he completed work on the illustrations and layout for the book of selected poems by A.A. Akhmatova, made two series of easel drawings “Poems” and “French Pencil,” and created a design project for the novel by J.W. Goethe “The Sorrows of Young Werther,” which was presented at the International Book Art Exhibition in Leipzig (IBA-82). He was a free, rapidly developing artist, mastering the most modern technologies and trends and offering his own original ideas, including “mail art.” In the words of L. Bazhanov, he became one of the creators of new artistic thinking. He died on January 19, 1983, in Moscow from a severe heart disease.
