(1789 Huguenot - 1813 Amsterdam) A winter landscape depicts a snowy village with rustic farmhouses and oak trees; in the left foreground, an elderly woman and a young man with a dog are returning while gathering firewood; on the right, in front of the farmhouse entrance, three additional figures. Atmospherically evocative, this rare work by a young, deceased artist, from whom no other known painting has survived, was previously documented. Jan Vuring van Driëlst studied under his stepfather Egbert van Driëlst (1745 - 1818) in Amsterdam. The present winter landscape, created in 1812, is immediately linked to his landscapes through its motif, style, and composition. Oil on canvas, relined; dimensions 63 cm x 72.5 cm. Framed.
