A sensitive and characteristic portrait study in which the color tone of the drawing cardboard influences the visual effect, with color applied only in the convex areas. This is a characteristic technique of Lenbach, who was educated at the Munich Academy under Karl Theodor von Piloty and became a sought-after portraitist of the nobility, bourgeoisie, and prominent figures in politics, society, science, and culture from 1868 onwards. Charcoal and chalk on top of pencil on cardboard. On the reverse, it is inscribed "Lady Curzon (/) Franz von Lenbach 1888" and bears an exhibition number. 30.8 cm x 30.4 cm. Framed.
