(1849 Granvin, Hardangerfjord/Norway – 1937 Balestrand, Sognefjord) A summer Norwegian fjord landscape with a red fisherman’s house, exceptionally atmospheric in both motif and artistic style, a joyful impression from a significant Norwegian artist. Dahl studied in Karlsruhe and Düsseldorf, including under Hans Gude; from 1888 to 1919 he lived in Berlin. Dahl regularly spent the summer months in Norway, where from 1893 he owned a villa in the dragon style in Balestrand and primarily depicted luminous fjords. From 1877 to 1913, Dahl participated in major Berlin art exhibitions; in 1876, 1878, 1889, and 1893 he was represented at the World’s Fairs in Philadelphia, Paris, and Chicago. Oil on canvas; signed and dated 1903. On the reverse, it is probably inscribed on the stretcher “Hans Andreas Dahl (/) Berlin, Kurfürstenstrasse 126.” 45.5 cm x 67 cm. In a frame.
