"Picturesque Landscapes of Fishermen on the Seine"

Evgeny Chicheri

Description

(1812 Paris – 1890 Marlotte) "People on the Seine" by Fischer, executed with tonal paints and a free brushstroke, is a picturesque landscape enlivened by fishermen in their boats. In the traditions of the Barbizon school, Ciceri here directly and firmly captures nature in a subtle, realistic depiction. Initially a student of his father, Pierre Luc Charles Ciceri (1782–1868), he soon focused on the inspiration of his uncle, Jean-Baptiste Isabey (1767–1855), and fully embraced landscape painting. Influenced by his Parisian neighbors and contemporary artists such as Théodore Rousseau, Jules Dupré, Narcisse Diaz, Johan Barthold Jongkind, and Jean-François Millet, he began direct studies in the forests of Fontainebleau and regularly exhibited at the Salon from 1851. In the 1870s, his palette gradually became brighter, and his attention to atmospheric effects and vibrant light demonstrates the growing influence of Impressionism. Oil on mahogany. Signed. 35.5 cm x 55 cm. In a frame.
