

(1821, Bom - 1911, Paris) "Gondolas". Original title Meisterhaft, executed with several brushstrokes - a preliminary study of a fully occupied Venetian gondola with gondoliers. Ziem was a member of the Barbizon School, debuting in 1849 at the Paris Salon, and subsequently became a regular exhibitor. In 1860, Ziem settled in the artistic quarter of Montmartre. Ziem's favorite motif was Venice, where he traveled annually from 1841 to 1892. Oil on oak panel. Titled and signed on the reverse; 14 cm x 45.5 cm. Framed.
