(1881 Jonakanton St. Gallen - 1954 Egnach/Canton Thurgau) The rescue scene depicts a young warrior in a bright red outfit, holding a female figure in his arms to carry her to safety. This meticulously executed Symbolist work by Frey-Mux is characterized by its light and color effects. It is likely inspired by a motif from Northern or ancient mythology. Frey-Mux moved to Munich in 1902, where he studied at the Academy under Karl Raupp and Wilhelm von Diez, becoming an assistant to Franz von Stuck in 1904. His works show a strong influence from both Stuck and Arnold Böcklin. Oil on wooden panel. Signed and with minor scratches. 30.5 x 25.5 cm. In a frame.
