(1865 Sost - 1943 Rotenburg/Wümme) Blue Mountains (On the River Nushe) Late summer landscape of the Allgäu, with a view from the observation platform between Bad Hindelang and Gailenberg. In the foreground, a small path with trees that have already taken on an autumnal golden-brown hue; in the middle and background, the blue mountains of the Allgäu alpine region with partially snow-covered peaks, illuminated by light and distance. In 1925, Modersohn visited the Allgäu for the first time. Modersohn, co-founder of the artists' colony and resident of Fischerhude since 1908, acquired an old farmhouse on Gailenberg near Hindelang in the Allgäu in 1930, where he spent the summer months until 1937. Now, at 65 years old, the artist works intensively in nature amid a completely new landscape environment, an extremely intense, inspiring contrast between the Allgäu mountains and the North German Fischerhude. Oil on canvas; signed and dated (19)31. Title on the stretcher of the canvas, made by Christian Modersohn (the artist's son). 50 cm x 60 cm. Framed. We thank Mr. Rainer Neres, Otto Modersohn Museum in Fischerhude, for confirming the authenticity.
