Bachmann's Abstract Composition: Rhythmic Surfaces
Description

(1922 Halle an der Saale - 1995 Karlsruhe) Abstract Composition. This work, created by Bachmann in 1960, is characterized by rhythmically interwoven color surfaces. Bachmann belonged to the contemporary Halle school and the avant-garde in the GDR since 1950. His paintings did not conform to the official doctrine, and in 1953 he was accused of "formalism." In the same year, Bachmann emigrated to West Berlin. In 1957, he became a lecturer at the University of Fine Arts, and in 1961, a professor. Expressive-realist images and abstract compositions mainly defined his work from the mid-1950s onward. Oil on cardboard. Signed and dated (19)60. Dimensions: 32 cm x 24 cm. Framed.
