This rare work is characterized by its subject matter, executed with great attention to detail by an artist primarily known as an architect, who studied architecture at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts. From 1833, he spent extended periods in Rome, alternating between Dresden and Italy from 1852, and finally settled permanently in Naples. He mainly painted Italian houses, churches, and monasteries.
