

Butter dish, Gardner, late 19th century. Molded in the form of a hen in her nest made of a wicker basket, removable lid cast with a chick motif, the underside stamped with the manufacturer's mark in red iron and impressed with the number 944. Dimensions: 2 1/4 x 2 3/4 (5.7 x 7 cm). Condition: small chip on the inner edge of the base. Another porcelain form of a chick covered bowl, M.S. Kuznetsov Factory in Tver, circa 1889–1900. The base is shaped like a wicker basket filled with straw, the removable lid depicts a hen resting on eggs in a straw nest. Dimensions: 6 3/4 height x 6 3/4 width x 5 3/8 depth (17.1 x 17.1 x 13.6 cm).
