Large figure of a male rocking pagoda made of porcelain
Description

A grey-bearded, stout Chinese man sits cross-legged, wearing a yellow robe adorned with Indian flowers, a gilded lace collar, a belt with precious stones, and plum-purple shoes. His hands and head are movable, but his tongue remains immobile. The polychrome painting is decorated with gold details (added later). Mark of the swords. Height: 32 cm. The so-called "nodding pagodas" can be traced back to designs from 1762, when Frederick II of Prussia ordered "10 pagodas with nodding heads" (five female and five male) for the Chinese House in Sanssouci. See the catalog of the Royal Saxon Porcelain Manufactory, 1904, page 27; Rückert, Bavarian National Museum, No. 1027; Pietsch, Triumph, page 144. Large male nodding pagoda figure made of porcelain. Restored. Crossed swords mark. Meissen. Circa 1770.
