The circus in the Soviet Union was the most joyful in the world, and Soviet clowns were true stars. On Soviet arenas, clowns ridiculed negative human qualities: theft, bribery, drunkenness, depicted something funny from the daily life of Soviet people, charging everyone with positivity and kindness.
These simple, yet incredibly colorful and funny images inspired the sculptor Sergei Orlov, the author of famous monumental works of Soviet culture.
His Soviet-era statuettes from the "Circus" series masterfully express sharp humor and aesthetic appeal.
One of the works from the talented sculptor's "clownade" is the DFZ statuette "Clown." A porcelain clown with an expressive, radiant face carries the positive spirit of a bygone era. The figurine is made of hard porcelain, painted in a bright, rich color palette with elements detailed in gold. The "Clown" USSR statuette bears the mark of the Dmitrov Porcelain Factory on its base.
Height approximately 15.5 cm.
