VEB Porcelain Figurine Gräfenthal Factory
The Carl Scheidig porcelain factory was founded in 1906 in Gräfenthal. It was successful from the very beginning; it exhibited at the Leipzig Fair as early as 1906 and received good commissions in Germany and abroad.
The production program included:
Individual figures, figure groups, animals of all kinds, animal groups, candlesticks, lamps, bookcases, smoke eaters, devotional items, holy teapots.
Carl Scheidig managed successfully despite existing competition from companies such as Weiß, Kühnert & Co., Unger, Schneider & Co., and Leube & Co., so that he was able to acquire the porcelain factory in Reichmannsdorf (see there) in 1925.
By 1955, the collection included about 10,000 models.
Since 1972, the company was renamed VEB Porzellanfigurenwerk Gräfenthal. The old trademark was withdrawn in 1976.
