VEB Porcelain Figurine Factory Gräfenthal
The porcelain factory Carl Scheidig was founded in 1906 in Gräfenthal. It was successful from the very beginning; it was exhibited at the Leipzig Trade Fair as early as 1906 and received good commissions in Germany and abroad.
The production program included:
Individual figures, figure groups, animals of all kinds, animal groups, candlesticks, lamps, bookcases, smoke eaters, devotional items, and holy teapots.
Carl Scheidig managed successfully despite existing competition from the companies Weiß, Kühnert & Co., Unger, Schneider & Co., and Leube & Co., so that he was able to acquire a porcelain factory in Reichmannsdorf (see there) in 1925.
In 1955, the collection comprised around 10,000 models.
Since 1972, the company was renamed VEB Porzellanfigurenwerk Gräfenthal. The old trademark was withdrawn in 1976.
