In the central part are the outlines of the Church of the Tithes according to the reconstruction by Professor Yu.S. Aseev. To create the impression that the structure no longer exists in reality, these outlines are presented as mirrored lines on a matte background, appearing to grow from the actually existing foundation from bottom to top with a gradual manifestation of relief. On the upper matte part of the coin, the inscriptions KYIV, Church of the Tithes, 996 AD are placed around the circumference in mirrored lines, separated from each other by stylized images of birds. Below, on a mirrored background, a ribbon is depicted with the inscription SPIRITUAL TREASURES OF UKRAINE on it.
Obverse
In the central circle, framed by a stylized floral ornament, is an image of the Virgin Hodegetria with the infant—a fragment of a bas-relief above the church portal that has survived to our time. Above the image of the Virgin are the State Coat of Arms of Ukraine and the circular inscription UKRAINE, below—the inscriptions: 1996—the year of coin minting and in two lines 2 HRYVNIAS—the designation of the coin's face value. The word 'HRYVNIAS' is arranged in a circle. The entire composition is framed by a circle of dots.
