    In the central part, an inscription in three lines: ГРИВЕННИКЪ1718, indicating the denomination and year of minting. Above the inscription are 10 raised counting dots, arranged in two rows of five. The dots denote (duplicate) the coin's denomination. Below the mint date is the letter 7 (error). Mintmaster's mark of lohann Luvis LANG (Ivan LANG in Russian interpretation). Around the edge of the coin is a twisted dotted border.

    The center of the obverse is occupied by the coat of arms of the Russian Empire - a double-headed eagle. Both heads of the eagle bear crowns, and a third, larger crown is between them. In its right talon, the eagle holds a scepter, and in its left, an orb. On the eagle's tail or right talon is the letter 'L'. Mintmaster's mark of lohann Luvis LANG (Ivan LANG in Russian interpretation). The coin's rim consists of denticles.
